Who we are

1. The browser extension

What happens only in your browser

To do its job, the extension looks at the pages you open. That work happens entirely on your device. Page addresses, page content and your browsing history are never sent to us.

These stay on your device, in your browser's extension storage:

• Your settings: on/off, intensity, effects, units, thermometer side, meltdown and shake options, your feed-site list, whitelist and schedule.
• A heat level for each site you've scrolled on recently (a number from 0 to 100 and a time), so a reload doesn't reset it, and running totals of screens scrolled and meltdowns. These stay on your device and are never synced or sent.
• Gallery packs you add from doomscrolled.app. They're downloaded once and kept locally.
• Counts shown in the toolbar, and when an ad card was last shown (used to limit how often ads appear).

Uninstalling the extension deletes all of this.

What the extension downloads from doomscrolled.app

• The ad list: the small set of ads the extension can show, with their pictures. The request carries no identifier and no information about you or the page you're on.
• Gallery packs you choose to add.
• Live rules: a short list of site fixes (what to include or leave alone on a site, sites to switch off), plus notices such as "a new version is available". It's data only, never code, and the request carries no identifier.

Doom Scroller ads

To stay free, the extension may show one small, labeled "Sponsored" ad card in the corner of pages. Ads are chosen without looking at the page you're on and without any profile of you. If you click an ad, the click passes through doomscrolled.app, which counts the click for that ad and then sends you to the advertiser's site. No personal information is attached. The advertiser's own site has its own privacy policy.

Only if you turn on "Share anonymous ad view counts" (off by default), the extension also sends a number of views per ad. That report contains no personal information. You can hide ads for an hour from any ad card. Ad-free plans remove them entirely.

2. Your Doom Scroller account (optional)

You can use the extension without an account. If you sign in with Google, on the website or in the extension, we receive and store:

We only ask Google for your basic profile and email (openid, email, profile). We don't access your Gmail, contacts, files or anything else in your Google account.

Deleting your data

• Delete everything: go to doomscrolled.app/account → Account → Delete my account. This removes your account, synced settings, signed-in browsers and any ads you created. Cancel monthly plans first.
• Sign out a browser: use Settings → Account → Sign out in the extension, or the list of browsers on your account page. That browser's sign-in token is deleted.
• Or email us and we'll delete your data.

3. Payments

Ad-free plans and advertiser plans are paid by card through our payment processor, NMI. You type your card details into NMI's secure payment window; they go directly to NMI and never reach our servers. NMI gives us a one-time token to complete the charge.

We share your email address and an order description with NMI, so they can send your receipt and process the payment. We keep the plan, amount, dates, and NMI transaction and subscription reference numbers. NMI handles card data under its own privacy policy and the card industry's security standards (PCI DSS).

4. Advertisers

If you advertise with us, we store the ads you create (images, titles, text and links) and each ad's view and click counts, alongside your account details above. Ads are reviewed before they run.

5. The doomscrolled.app website

• Cookies: we use one sign-in cookie (sess) to keep you signed in, and a short-lived cookie (about 10 minutes) during Google sign-in. There are no tracking or analytics cookies from us.
• Sponsored spot and Google ads: the website may show a sponsored spot, which can include ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve and measure those ads, and may personalize them based on your visits to this and other sites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's Ad Settings. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services. Google ads never appear inside the extension.
• Hosting: the site and service run on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

6. What we never do

• Collect or sell your browsing history, page content, or the list of sites you visit.
• Sell, rent or trade personal information.
• Use your data to build advertising profiles or to target the ads in the extension.
• Run code downloaded from the internet inside the extension. All of its code ships in the extension package.

7. Google user data and the Chrome Web Store

Doom Scroller's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. The extension follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy. We use this data only to provide the features described here, never for advertising, and we don't transfer it except as needed to run the service (our hosting provider and, for payments, NMI), for security, or as required by law.

9. Security and retention

All connections to doomscrolled.app use HTTPS. Sign-in tokens are stored only in hashed form. We keep account data while your account exists and delete it when you delete your account. Aggregate ad click and view counts, which aren't linked to any person, may be kept for reporting.

10. Children

Doom Scroller isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

11. Your choices and rights

You can use the extension without an account, turn ads off with a paid plan, keep ad view counts off, and delete your account at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your personal information. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we'll also note them on doomscrolled.app.
